Penninsular War / Waterloo period miniature of a young officer with the 42nd Highland Regt.

Price: £2,450

An excellent quality miniature on ivory circ.1810, of a young officer from the 42nd Highland Regiment wearing the scarlet coatee with blue facings, along with 'GR' gorget. His gold regimental cross plate proudly and clearly shows the regimental number '42', and it is most probable that the sitter particularly asked for this to be clearly painted. Housed in a typical plain gilt Georgian mount, with a very nice quality cut bevelled glass to the front. The reverse has an outer surround of translucent blue enamel over an engine turned base (beautifully restored)and a centre oval with fine hair back interwoven with gold wheats. The quality of painting skill, and attention to detail clearly shows the painter to be of a high professional standard, and bearing in mind the particular style of the light background, with a stippled effect, it may be possible with research to find out the painters name.
